Hmmm...I'd like to, but so far this is like the first request I've had for this and I don't have much time at the moment. If I get more requests for this I'd put the time into creating it.

I think there is a post somewhere on my forums that has some of these details, you may have to search for it a bit.

To learn objective-C, I literally just typed "beginning objective c" into google and went from there. I did read the one intro book by Apress but it wasn't that helpful. I actually didn't learn Cocoa at all, as I pretty much just used cocos2d for most of my objects.

As far as the graphics, I hired a friend who had a good drawing pad and has a talent for artwork. He worked very hard on all the backgrounds and animations.

I created the particle effects basically by guess and check...I modified the example particle effects that come with cocos2d until I found effects that I was happy with.

It took me basically one month to start completely from scratch until the game was ready for its first release. However, I've been working on it constantly for about 3 months now, so what you currently see on iTunes is the result of a lot of time and work.

If you want to make a game for the iPhone, download cocos2d-iphone and look at all the example files. It is free to download and free to use, even if you sell your application later on. It is difficult to pick up at first, but as you start making your own game it will all make sense eventually.

As far as a path to follow, I would say to not restrict yourself to any one language. You should understand very well some of the 'pure' OO languages like Java, but also work with something closer to the machine like C. Spend some time and create a simple project in assembly language, like a simple sort algorithm, so you can understand better what the compiler is doing behind the scenes and you can understand ways to write your code to be more efficient.

Build a website from scratch (I know I used wordpress here, but I've build other websites using nothing but notepad). It just helps to understand as much as you can, so find a project that you think would be fun to work on, and use that project as a means to learn a new computer system that you didn't understand before.

Hi StickWars Dev Team,

I don't know if this is going to be read by everyone or just one person but I just wanted to ask a few questions about your game. I'm sorry if it seems like I am bugging you with questions, but I am having a hard time finding information about more game specific things.

Where did you learn everything about objective-C and Cocoa and more specifically the interactions between objects and how to create animations on screen?

How did you create the amazing backgrounds and graphics along with the particle effects?

How long did it take you to learn OBJC and Cocoa and how long did it take you to make this game?

Do you have any recommendations on a path to follow in learning languages, graphics etc..?

Thank You

Thanks a lot, it's great to hear that you enjoy it. I'm sorry that sometimes bugs spring up, but to be fair I had them fixed the very day it went live, and then it took Apple over 3 weeks to approve the update :(.

But I'm still working very hard on StickWars, and in the upcoming weeks when the multiplayer challenges go live, you should check them out. They are going to add a whole new dimension to the simple fun of StickWars :).

Hey,

I just wanted to let you know how much I've enjoyed this game. I'm 29 and have had the app for about 3 months. I know you have a lot of people requesting changes and bitching about updates, but I just wanted to let you know that this is the greatest app for the iphone. I have thouroughly enjoyed every level (except for the first 20 or so because they are for beginers).

I've had a few problems with the game in the 1.2 stage where a few buttons didn't work, but I knew you would be on it and get it right. And I'm sure this isn't the only thing you have to do all day long either.

Great idea with the cheat codes! I know you have a million requests and I know that you are working on this, but I'd like to see a cheat that simply adds money.

Anyway, I just wanted to say thanks for creating such a truely unique game that's worth 10 times more than the purchase price! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!
