StickWars 1.1 is #1 Paid App
Exactly one week after release, StickWars has hit the top spot in the App Store. For something that started out a little over a month ago as a project to help me learn Objective C, I can say that I never expected this.
I want to thank all my friends who put so much of their time into playing my test versions back when it wasn’t really fun to play
. I also owe a lot to my other testers who provided me a lot of valueable feedback.
I’m still hard at work for future updates, so enjoy playing and look forward to the game improving over time.
Hi John,
I’m an early stage investor in Seattle and have been advising a small group of local iPhone developers on app promotion & marketing. I keep hearing the same frustrations from everyone and wanted to get a more scientific answer to the questions: “what have you tried?” and “what works?”
I’ve put together a short (9 question) survey and am reaching out to some of the more accomplished iPhone publishers to see if I can round up better answers. The plan is to publish all results (anonymized of course) so the whole community can benefit. I’m not looking for secret sauce, just a workable dataset of what tools are used the most and work best.
If this is even remotely of interest, please take a look at the survey and – if it looks OK – submit a reply:

Thanks in advance for considering it and don’t hesitate to mail back with questions.
Cheers,
Chris
Hey, I don’t mean this as a rude comment, but isn’t the game just a complete rip off of ‘defend your castle’? I love playing what feels to be the same game on x-gen’s website, but it seems wrong to just blatantly steal the game design right down to the cost of upgrades. Just a question =], I’d like to hear your perspective.
There are many games online of the same genre as StickWars, of which defend your castle is just one.
I designed StickWars from the ground up to be fun to play on the iPhone, and put a lot of thought into the type and costs of upgrades and other gameplay features. Any similarities you may see in the two games are coincidental.
Fair enough, I like your answer. In any case, congratulations on your success!
I think in the upcoming updates you should add purchashable upgrades like new spells and arrow upgrades. And possibly add scouts that increase your view.
The new update has some pretty cool new animations, as well as a new enemy.
I’m still working on more powerful upgrades.
Any sneak peaks on the new upgrades?
Not ready to make promises yet. I’ll throw them up on my forums when the time is right
.
Ok cool, is there anyway to get 1.2 at this time?
I’ll be sending my beta testers another copy tomorrow or Monday. It’s really going to be a MUCH better version
.
If you want to get it sign up on my forums at http://johnehartzog.com/forum/. Also, try to post these sort of questions there so other people can read them.
Ok thanks

There is an up an coming Web 2.0 website on the rise. Would you like to advertise your games (Which I currently use often;personally) on this website for free?
